Who are you?
I am a guy with a computer.
When did you start making art?
I started to make stuff when I discovered Autodesk Animator somewhere in the 90s. I think I call my work art since 2007.
What inspires you to create?
Freedom and the Internet.
Tell us about your recent Monogrid collection?
Monogrid is a collection of real-time animations that render directly in the browser window. The whole project is build on bits, bytes and hex values. The animations are made of black and white pixels that gets mixed up with a set of 16 different animation algorithms. This piece is very structured and strict in its concept, but has also a huge portion of random and noise in it. So it is a constant fight between chaos and order. All 256 artworks use the some algorithms but get initialized with a different parameter set, based on the position in the main grid. I had a vision of this concept and a vague idea of what it would look like. Fortunately, the result has become much more interesting than expected.
How do you feel about the projects overnight success?
I am thrilled! Thanks to all collectors and all the kind words. I didn’t expect anything like this and I don’t know what else to say.
What are the future plans with the Monogrid project?
Generally the project is one big artwork for me. And like every artist I’ll take care of it in any sense. There might be some variations coming, I am currently experimenting with the algorithm, modifying it, exploring new ways to create something with it.
