Lf.dy_ Interview

Who are you?

Can’t really call myself an artist because I feel like I still don’t deserve the title, but I did major in fine art and now work as a graphic designer. Been at it for 4-5 years (?) now, working in entertainment.

When did you start making art?

It’s a pretty basic story. I started making ‘art’ as a child, drawing video game characters, stick figures, etc. Peers enjoyed my doodles, but I never really considered pursuing art until I was going to college. I was a pretty big fuck up in high school and wanted to get away from the boring schoolwork and tests, so I majored in fine art. I just wanted to coast through it all. Professors saw potential in me, but I couldn’t care to put much effort into my work until I realized that once I graduate, I’ll have no other skill besides art to do anything.

Why do you tackle depressing themes in your work?

I used to be a sad kid and I think I still have that lingering feeling of depression in me. I’m not necessarily good at articulating my feelings so I use art as a sort of therapy. Probably not the best way to go about doing things.

Why did you join HEN?

I joined HEN when realizing that not a lot of people care to buy my art for ETH. Initially tried opensea and foundation, and I was bleeding money from the gas fees that came with minting and listing pieces. HEN on the other hand feels more community driven and is a lot more affordable to mint and list. So much talent on that platform, it’s crazy! I’m just happy to be a part of it.

Why do you make art?

Art is the only thing I know how to do. I create out of desperation. I can’t lie and tell you some bullshit I don’t believe. I want to create pieces that have multiple meaning, while simultaneously evoking a certain type of emotion.

Do you have any creations that stand out as your favorite?

I feel like that’s a tough question. I like all the work that I put out, otherwise I wouldn’t put it out. But if I were to choose one from of all my pieces that exist in this space, I’d easily say ‘Idk Can We Even Be Friends?’ would be my pick. Just because it came from a very vulnerable state of mind and I think most, if not all, people can relate in one way or another.

What is the process for creating a piece?

I’d usually start off with a certain feeling or thought I have with a certain situation and just start building on that. I try to not over conceptualize a piece in my head, since that usually leads to disappointment. Then I’d pair it with a writing I have, that feels appropriate. Or derive some ideas from the writing to complement the piece better.

Other than NFTs what do you do in your free time?

I like to write a lot, I try to read a lot of poems, and have been trying to learn coding and music production right now to help immerse peoples into the world that I’m creating with my art. Besides that, I like to play video games, guitar, and rock climb to destress.

What adds value to your art?

As sparse as it is, I think the little details give more value to my work. I do a bit of research before adding in a certain element, whether that’d be in composition, color, or the amount of whatever I add into a drawing.

What is a piece of advice you would tell a child?

Buy bitcoin. Joking. I think it’s important to give 100% to everything you do, because we only have a finite amount of time in this world and as long as you put in the effort, I think things can work out in your favor… for the most part.

Anybody you want to shoutout?

Shoutout to @lewistagart who helped me out a bunch in the start of this NFT journey and have always had my back. @inpsydout, my first twitter friend, for always being the homie and believing in me, @in_cloudlands for being a such a brilliant artist with the biggest heart and @sami_rain_gold for being an inspiration. I always looked up to her art, and to have her invite me to foundation out of the blue was the biggest compliment I could ever get. Sorry to all the other amazing artists that I didn’t mention, otherwise I’ll go on forever.

Anything else?

I just want to say that I’m always open to conversation. If you want to reach out, give me feedback, talk shit about my art, or just shoot the shit, you can reach out to me in on my socials or whatever else.
